Raise money for your local schools while you shop with these three easy steps.

As a West Hempstead resident with two children in the public schools, I know times are tough and school budgets have been tightening so here is a way to help raise money for your local school.
According to the Target website, they have a program called “Take Charge of Education.” The process for signing up looks fairly easy and involves three steps.
- Apply and get approved for a REDcard®.
- Enroll in Take Charge of Education and designate a K-12 school.
- Start shopping with your REDcard®. “
I took the liberty of getting some information for the West Hempstead Public Schools but it's easy enough to find out about other local schools.

If I understand the site data correctly, only 59 REDcard holders are designating their purchases toward the program and choosing West Hempstead Public Schools. This seems awfully low considering there are about 18,100 West Hempstead residents but perhaps they are unaware. I know my family participates in the program and is very pleased.
According to the site, the School I.D. Codes for the West Hempstead Public Schools are:

- Chestnut Avenue: 120073
- West Hempstead Middle School: 79137
- Cornwell Avenue: 79138
- West Hempstead High School: 79140
- George Washington: 79139
Since you probably started “Back to School” shopping already, why not consider this community program. I know every little bit helps the schools these days.
