Caryn Blum Appointed Interim Principal of South Middle School

Lynbrook welcomes Blum from Bellmore-Merrick School District.

The Lynbrook School District recently welcomed Caryn Blum as the interim principal of South Middle School.

Blum comes to Lynbrook from the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District, where she served as assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and assessment for two years and Merrick Avenue Middle School principal for 13 years. Earlier in her career, she held principal and teacher roles at schools in Queens and Brooklyn.

Blum has developed a wealth of experience in a number of school- and district-wide areas, including implementation of the Common Core Learning Standards, writing and aligning curriculum, organizing and facilitating staff training, establishing relationships with colleges, overseeing the administration of exams and assessments, assisting in Annual Professional Performance Review development, managing and overseeing students and staff on a daily basis, organizing and facilitating new general and special education programs and working with faculty members to determine best teaching practices.

In addition to her school-level responsibilities, Blum is a member of several educational organizations including the Long Island Council of Social Studies, Nassau Music Educators Association, Nassau Association of District Curriculum Officials and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. She is a past recipient of the CAS Award of Excellence, PTA Founder’s Day Award and Merrick Kiwanis Certificate of Appreciation.

“I am excited about working with the Lynbrook South Middle School community and getting to know the families and children,” Blum said.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree in Learning Disabilities and a Professional Diploma in Educational Administration, all from Brooklyn College. She also has New York State Certification as a School District Administrator and New York State Permanent Certification in Special Education.
