‘Devoted Husband, Doting Father, Loving Son And Brother’: Community Raises $198K In Honor of NCPD Officer
Bureau of Special Operations officer Sean Ledwith served with NCPD for 12 years, the Nassau County PBA says.
MALVERNE, NY. — Nassau County Police Bureau of Special operations officer Sean Ledwith died Sunday, leaving behind a wife and four children. In the wake of Ledwith’s passing, the community has come together to raise almost $200,000 in donations to support his family and help with funeral expenses.
An obituary for Ledwith identified him as a devoted husband who had been married to his high school sweetheart for 18 years, and a doting father who could be seen taking their four children to various sporting events and extracurricular activities across Long Island.
“He and Shannon worked tirelessly through very difficult schedules to give their children Catholic School educations and incredible opportunities,” Ledwith’s obituary reads. “He was a man who played many roles throughout his life: devoted husband, doting father, loving son and brother, Police Officer, Marine Sergeant, high school quarterback, Ocean Lifeguard and volunteer youth coach, among others.”

According to his obituary, Ledwith had served as a U.S. marine, completing two tours of duty during Operation Iraqi Freedom and one in Kosovo, where he was stationed with a United Nations peacekeeping force.
“Sean was a loving husband and a devoted father. He served his community with honor, integrity, and selflessness, always doing it with a smile on his face. Sean was a Marine Corps veteran who served one tour in Kosovo and two combat tours in Iraq in 2003 and 2006,” the GoFundMe page reads. “For his service, Sean was awarded a multitude of awards and citations, including the Iraqi Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal Second Award, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon Second Award, and Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal Second Award. Most impressively, Sean was the recipient of the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with Combat Distinguishing Device).”

As of Friday morning, the fundraiser to support Ledwith’s family as they mourned their father and husband had generated $198,308, with a goal of raising $250,000. While the fundraising page highlighted Ledwith’s accomplishments in the military and his service in law enforcement, it also described him as a devoted family man.
“Sean was a man who cherished his family above all else,” the fundraising page reads. “His wife Shannon and four children, Maeve, Sean Jr., and his two twin boys, Connor and Finn, were his greatest pride, and everything he did was for them. Their lives have been forever changed by this sudden loss.”
A wake for Ledwith took place Thursday at St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre, and a funeral took place Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Malverne. He will be buried at Calverton National Cemetery in Wading River, the Nassau County PBA announced.
