10 People Out Of Massapequa Park Home After Garage Fire: NCFM

MASSAPEQUA PARK, NY — A garage fire broke out in Massapequa Park Tuesday night, leading to the response of 80 firefighters from five departments and the displacement of 10 people, fire officials said.

According to the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office, 911 calls came in at 8:18 p.m. for a fire in the garage at an East Lake Avenue home. The Massapequa Fire Department was the first on the scene and received mutual aid from Amityville, Bethpage, North Massapequa and Seaford fire departments, bringing the total firefighting force to about 80, authorities said.

Over the next hour, the fire caused “serious damage” to the home before it was brought under control, authorities said. In the aftermath of the blaze, five adults and five children were forced to relocate after the home was declared uninhabitable, officials said. Those residents, officials said, are set to live in a relative’s home.

No injuries were reported, officials said, and the residents of the home self-evacuated. Tuesday night, officials said the Massapequa Park Building Department was on the scene to evaluate the house.
