Driver In Fatal Hit-And-Run Arrested: Nassau Police
Police say they found the driver a short time later at a convenience store.
A Lynbrook man was arrested on Thursday after police say he killed a pedestrian with his car and fled the scene.
According to police, a man was crossing Merrick Road near Blossom Heath Avenue just before 8 p.m. on Thursday when he was struck by a gray Nissan driven by 48-year-old Harley Dix. Police say Dix left the scene, but a description of his car was given to officers by witnesses.
A short time later, police say that officers located Dix's car at the In N Out Convenience Store, located at 300 Mill Road in Hewlett. After an investigation, Dix was placed under arrest.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.
Dix is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with a death. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
