Drunk Driver Caused Serious Four-Car Crash: State Police

Many people were injured and the Southern State was closed for hours early Sunday morning, police say.

State police arrested a Queens man who they say was driving drunk and caused a serious four-car crash on the Southern State Parkway early Sunday morning.

According to police, a Ford Econoline was stopped and disabled in the right westbound lane at Exit 18, just before 2:15 a.m. A Nissan Pathfinder was stopped behind it. Police say that a Honda Accord, driven by Tyler Jackson, 31, of Rosedale, was driving in the right lane and struck the Nissan from behind, which in turn struck the Ford. Jackson lost control, police say, and struck a fourth car, a Toyota Sienna.

Police say that two people were injured in the Ford and eight people inside the Nissan were injured. No one in the Toyota was injured. Everyone who was hurt were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Jackson suffered the most serious injuries, police say, suffering facial trauma and a pelvic injury.
