East Rockaway Football Team Recognized at Village Meeting
The Board of Trustees also passed a resolution authorizing new traffic regulations on Franklin Street in East Rockaway and set a public hearing date for the override of a two percent tax cap.
The East Rockaway football team may have , but the village board said they still appreciate all that the team has done for the community.
The Board of Trustees presented certificates to the team at Monday night's village meeting, congratulating the boys on making it to the finals for the first time in 11 years.
"You got us there, to the finals, and that's all that matters," said Mayor Francis T. Lenahan. "I know that last quarter touchdown hurt...but you've made us proud."

No. 6 East Rockaway in the semifinals, 30-13. The Rocks would fall short in their bid for a county title against No. 2 Roosevelt, 21-14, in the
Mikey Lores and Thomas Dolan for the Rocks this season, while Sean Bohan and Josh Warner were named All-Conference.

Parking Issues Addressed
The village addressed several issues currently under review with parking. The parking field and issuances of non-resident permits are still under review and being evaluated, according to Mayor Lenahan.
Lenahan announced at the that the issuance of new parking permits for the municipal field has been suspended for any non-resident applicants. The village said they hope to maximize their use for residents and commuters, those with overnight permits and residential permits.
"We have heard residents concerns and input regarding some of these issues, and will be focusing on them as well," Lenahan said.
Proper signage around the village will be installed and in some cases changed so commuters better understand the rules and regulations in certain lots, according to Lenahan.
Waterway Improvement
Lenahan said that major improvements are underway to the building formerly known as One Stop Auto, located at 496 Atlantic Ave. New bulk heading is under construction which should help advert problems that "could have happened," according to Lenahan.
"This was an issue that was being neglected and could have caused a major environmental impact, if left to lapse any further," Lenahan said.
At the assistance of the village board and after evaluation by a village engineer, he said that major improvements are underway for the property.
Franklin Street Stop Signs
The board passed resolution #5001, which authorized the placement of all-way stop signs on Franklin Street. Lenahan said this was at the request of residents.
Library Carpet Bid Awarded
The board passed resolution #5009, which awards a 2012 bid for the carpet. The bid is for the amount of $67,194, and will carpet the entire library.
Public Hearing for The Override of a Two Percent Tax Cap
A public hearing for a potential override of the state's will be held at Village Hall on Jan. 9, 2012, at 8 p.m.
"It is in the best interest of the village to override the tax levy limit," the board said. "To protect the village against outstanding issues, New York State needs to resolve the true definition of 'levy' and the mechanics of placing any excess levy in reserve."
