To deal with extreme weather conditions, an emergency preparedness plan has been developed and coastal evacuation routes have been established. These routes are clearly marked with round blue and white signs that mark directions to predesignated evacuation sites.

The town also has a pamphlet available that contains emergency telephone numbers, lists of suggested evacuation supplies and safety guidelines for hurricanes. Some hurricane safety tips include:

  • Have at least a two-week supply of nonperishable foods and a four-week supply of prescription medicines.
  • Clear yards of loose objects such as bicycles, lawn furniture and trash cans. Anchor objects -- no matter how heavy or large -- so that they cannot be moved by strong winds.
  • Store documents and valuables in waterproof containers and secure them in the highest possible spot to prevent damage to irreplaceable items.

Road Improvement Project Announced in Seaford

The Town of Hempstead has announced one road improvement project in Seaford.

  • Road Improvement Project includes a portion of Locust and Woodward Avenues in Seaford: The project will include the construction of new curbs, driveway aprons, the installation of pedestrian access ramps at all intersections, new asphalt pavement and the restoration of disturbed grass areas. The project is expected to begin in August and complete in October.

Board of Appeals to Meet Wednesday

The Town of Hempstead Board of Appeals will hold its regularly scheduled meetings on Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
