Joomla Beginners Workshop A Success
Long Island Joomla Users Group held a Beginners Workshop to teach the fundamentals of the popular CMS to more than a dozen Joomla neophytes.

The Long Island Joomla User Group held a beginner's workshop to teach the basics of Joomla to a group of current and potential Joomla! users. The event was held on Saturday, February 14. It was a four hour event, and attendees either brought or were lent a laptop to get hands on experience with a demo Joomla system.
The topics covered included: Organization of the Joomla Menu, The menu manager, Structure of a Joomla page, adding articles, adding modules, extension nomenclature, templates, extensions, and going further.
The workshop was held at Temple Beth Torah in Dix Hills, NY. Use of the facility was arranged by Dr. Jodi Mishkin, an administrator of the synagogue school, and a member of the Long Island Joomla Users Group. We are very grateful to Dr. Mishkin and Temple Beth Torah for providing the venue. Temple Beth Torah uses Joomla as a communication tool for its faculty, students, & parents.
There were 16 attendees of the workshop. Skill levels of the attendees spanned from virgin neophyte to advanced beginner. The workshop was intended to get newbies to be able to work with Joomla. Attendees said that was accomplished. Even advanced beginners learned some new and helpful things about Joomla.
Special thanks goes to Olivier Buissard of Simplify Your Web (http://simplifyyourweb.com), a Joomla developer, for serving as a mentor. Olivier assisted users that got stuck, and made certain that nobody was left behind. Success would have been impossible without Olivier's help.
Mark Simko, organizer of the Long Island Joomla User Group gave the slide presentation.
Our gracious host, Dr. Mishkin, said she would like to host more Joomla workshops, perhaps on a semi-annual basis.
