Lady Rams Fall to Port Washington in Season Opener

West Hempstead girls basketball looks to rebound after a tough loss to the Port Washington Vikings.

The West Hempstead girls basketball team came up short in their season opening game on Saturday, Nov. 4, against Port Washington. The Rams lost to the Vikings 48-27 despite impressive efforts by senior point guard Katie Lynch and the rest of the team. Lynch scored 17 points for the Rams, the most of any player in the game.

The Vikings had taken an early 8-0 lead, which they continued to build upon, but the Rams tried their best to rally. Seniors Sarah Njoku scored six points for the day, and Lisa Nappi had four. Lynch brought them within 11 points of tying the game, but a tough Vikings squad sunk some key three pointers at the end of the third quarter to bolster their lead. It was not the Rams day.

The Lady Rams finished last season with a 3-9 record and are looking to improve upon it this year.
