Lakeview's Peace Garden Getting Closer to Completion

County says park could be finished by Memorial Day.

Lakeview residents could be strolling through a completed Peace Garden by Memorial Day.

Contractors were back working on the small park along Woodfield Road last week, preparing the area for a wide variety of trees, shrubs and plants that are scheduled to be planted there.

"Some of these plants are hard to come by so they all will not be planted at once, but when they become available," said a spokesman for Nassau County's Department of Public Works.

The county has also secured the final connections for the park's lighting and irrigation, and are expecting a stone fountain to be delivered in early April. They anticipate that the whole project should be completed by Memorial Day, May 28.

Nassau County broke ground on the Lakeview Peace Garden last summer, a project that is being funded by the Environmental Bond Act. Nassau County Legis. Robert Troiano, who represents District 2, has said it is part of a bigger plan to revitalize the Lakeview community.
