Lynbrook Defeats Plainedge, 54-20

Travis Lock scores five touchdowns; next up for Owls is Lawrence.

It wasn't Marion Street Field, but Lynbrook's Travis Lock made himself at home at Hofstra Stadium on Friday, rushing for 253 yards and five touchdowns in a 54-20 Lynbrook victory over Plainedge in a Conference III semifinal match-up.

"The offensive line made some holes, but when Travis needed to make a hole for himself, he definitely made a hole for himself," said Lynbrook coach Steve Locicero. "It was a great team effort tonight."

Lock got the Owls on the scoreboard just a minute and a half into the game, running 37 yards for a touchdown. Less than two minutes later, quarterback Paul Magloire capped a six-play drive with a 12-yard touchdown run, giving the Owls an early 14-0 lead. Lock would add his second touchdown of the game, a 62-yard run, less than five minutes later, to give Lynbrook a 20-0 in the 1st quarter.

Plainedge battled back, pulling to within six points after two quick touchdowns. But that was as close as Plainedge would come in the game, as Lynbrook's defense dug in and its offense took over.

"I think, at times when you get up on an opponent, there's a tendency for young kids to relax," Locicero said. "And once they realized they couldn't relax, we played our best football."

With 9:29 left in the first half, Magloire and Lock led a nine-play, 68-yard drive, ending with Lock's third touchdown, a 10-yard run in which he broke what seemed like two sure tackles. Mike Kozlakowski added a 9-yard touchdown run a few minutes later to put Lynbrook up 33-13 at halftime.

Early in the 3rd quarter, Plainedge's Ralph Caccavale broke free for a 61-yard touchdown run, making the score 33-20.

Later in the quarter, Lynbrook's Conor Daly picked off a pass and ran it back to Plainedge's 4-yard line. Lock finished the job with his fourth touchdown of the game.

Kozlakowski added a 22-yard touchdown run, and Lock scored his fifth TD on a 51-yard run, giving Lynbrook a commanding 54-20 lead with 9:07 left in the game.

Despite the 34-point difference, Locicero said he thought Plainedge put up a real tough fight.

"They're a good team, they played hard," he said. "They've got some great, talented kids and athletes and they made some plays."

Next up for Lynbrook is Lawrence (8-2), the only team it didn't beat in the regular season. That game will be played on Friday (location and time to be determined).
