With a scoreless tie against undefeated Manhasset (10-0-2) on Tuesday, the Lynbrook Owls (8-1-3) now enter the Nassau County Class A Championships as the fifth seed.
The Owls finished second in Conference 6, and will play 12th-seeded Bethpage (5-4-3) on Saturday.
"Finishing the league season with a tie against Manhasset was a good result," said Coach Josh Berlin. Being the only team in the league that we lost to, the team was determined to have a better result this time — mission accomplished."
Owls defender Damian Andreani shut down Manhasset's Andrew Kapper, who, along with the Owls' Angelo Messina, leads the league in scoring with 11 goals. It was the fifth time this season that the Owls shut out their opponent.
The Owls, who outshot Manhasset 7-2, nearly scored early in the game on a nice cross, but Manhasset goalie Max Egan knocked it away. Berlin said his midfielders helped control the pace of play and not allow Manhasset's forwards too much space.
Lynbrook takes on Bethpage on Saturday at Lynbrook North Middle School at 1 p.m.
