Malverne Students Dazzle in Dr. Seuss Musical

Malverne High School put on a spectacular production of Seussical.

The Malverne High School Thespian Troupe swept their audiences off their feet earlier this month and transported them to the world of Dr. Seuss.

The cast breathed life into the imaginative characters from the author's classic stories, inlcuding Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and the Whos, in this year's musical production, Seussical.

The exceptionally large cast, nearly double the size of previous shows, dazzled audiences in performances throughout March 9 to the 12 with their powerhouse vocals, large ensemble dance numbers and incredible stage presence.

Junior Zachary St. John, as the Cat in the Hat, led the audience on a great adventure, while also poking fun at them at times. St. John like so many others in the cast transformed into the quirky and beloved characters that adults and children have grown to love over the years. He also showed great physical comedy and timing, as did Will Avelar and Sarah St. John, as Mr. and Mrs. Mayor of Whooville.

Sophomore Samantha Henry also had the audience in belly-laughs in her role as the clever and sweet, but self-conscious Gertrude the bird, who pines for Horton the Elephant.

Ashanti Graham also owned the spotlight as the good-natured Horton, captivating the audience with hid heart-filled solos. Francina Smith delivered show-stopping performances, as she belted out the diva-like songs of the Sour Kangaroo, and sophomore Rayven Mason looked stunning as the pink-feathered Mayzie while also hitting beautiful notes to match her attire.

Two talented Herber Middle School students, Christina Sangineti and Kayla Mascall, also starred in this year's show, sharing the role of JoJo, a young boy with a wild imagination.

The entire cast captured the fun, creativity and wit that audiences have come to expect "when you think about Seuss!"
