Man On Scooter Killed In West Hempstead Collision: Police

WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY — A man who was fatally struck while using a scooter in West Hempstead was identified by police Saturday.

Daniyal Shaukat, 24, of Queens Village, was hit Thursday night on Hempstead Turnpike near Cherry Valley Road, detectives said.

Shaukat was killed when a 31-year-old man crashed his 2021 Mazda into the Bird battery-operated scooter, police said.

Shaukat, who suffered severe head trauma, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver remained at the accident location.

The investigation is continuing, according to police.
