Nassau Man Attacked 2 Officers During Arrest: Police

ELMONT, NY — An Elmont man was arrested Thursday night after Nassau County police said he assaulted two officers who were responding to a call at his home.

According to police, officers were called to the home on South King Street at 11:55 p.m. for a disturbance. When they arrived, they found Hurguens Jasmine, 24, had blocked off the stairs to the second floor of the home, police said.

Police said the officers asked Jasmine to come down, but he yelled at them and began to swing a metal broomstick, hitting one of the officers multiple times. The officers tried to place Jasmine under arrest, police said, but he resisted and flailed his arms and legs, striking the officers.

One of the officers used his stun gun to subdue Jasmine, police said, and he was placed under arrest. Jasmine was taken to a nearby hospital to be evaluated. In the ambulance, police said Jasmine became combative again and spat on a police officer and a Nassau police medic who was caring for him.

One of the officers had cuts on the top of his head and bruises on his forearms. The other officer sustained bruises to his hands and forearms. Both were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Jasmine is charged with two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of second-degree menacing, two counts of second-degree harassment, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
