• West Hempstead house fire displaces residents, claims 2 dogs, fire marshal's office says (newsday.com) — Malverne firefighters were among several local departments called to a serious house fire in nearby West Hempstead that displaced two residents and killed two dogs Tuesday afternoon. Crews knocked down the second-story blaze on Nassau Boulevard in about 30 minutes, and county fire marshals and police arson investigators are now working to determine the cause.
