PHOTOS: OLL Brings to Life Stations of the Cross

Parishioners follow along as members of Our Lady of Lourdes' youth ministry act out Jesus' final hours.

A large crowd of Catholics, young and old, processed around in Malverne Friday afternoon, taking the same journey that their Lord did when he died on the cross.

They followed along as teenagers from the parish's Youth Ministry acted out the Stations of the Cross -14 scenes, called "stations," that tell the story of how Jesus Christ came to be crucified and buried in a tomb, where he later rose from the dead, according to Scriptures.

Dressed in costumes, including a crown of thorns worn by the actor playing the role of Jesus, the teens started on the steps of the church's rectory. There they depicted the first station - Jesus is condemned to death.

As they continued down Sheehy Place, passing by , the large congregation of parishioners followed them, including the church's Children's Choir, which led the group in song. They stopped at various locations to continue the story as they turned onto Park Boulevard, Carisle Place and then back to Wright Avenue, where they ascended the steps of the church to perform the most dramatic scene - the crucifixion.

After the final stations were completed, one-by-one, adults and children approached the large cross that 'Jesus' had carried around the neighborhood, and took a moment to touch it, kiss it, bow their heads, kneel down beside it or bless themselves.
