Police Take 500 Bags Of Heroin Off Streets With Arrest

A Long Island man is charged with selling the drug in his hometown.

Nassau police arrested an Elmont man Thursday night for selling heroin, and removed a huge amount of it from his house.

According to police, Kenneth Mateo, 45, of Caroline Avenue, was selling heroin throughout March. A Narctoics Vice Squad investigation led to his arrest on March 20 at 10:24 p.m. in Elmont.

After receiving written and verbal consent to search his home, police recovered 535 glassine envelopes that they believe contained heroin, some marijuana and $3,000 in cash.

Mateo is charged with five counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and four counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
