Push To Remove KKK Leader's Name From Signs Gets Public Hearing
Paul Lindner was a founder of Malverne in 1915, but his racist past is leading to calls for his name to be removed from signs.

MALVERNE, NY — The village of Malverne has a meeting scheduled for Thursday night and the renaming of Lindner Place is expected to be on the docket.
The Board of Trustees called for the public hearing at 8 p.m.
As a founder of Malverne a century ago, Paul Lindner gave Lindner Place its name. But he had a complex past as a member of the Ku Klux Klan.

His name was removed from an elementary school several years ago.
Jason Mach, who runs the district's humanities department, organized volunteer projects for students to become educated about Lindner.

A change.org page has more than 5,500 signatures for a name change to Cherry Lane.
"When the maps of the original town were drawn up, he put his name on it because he owned the property," Mach told Patch in January.
