Queens Man Injured Nassau Officers While Resisting Arrest: NCPD

Police say the man refused to follow officers' commands and fled from them, forcing them to give chase.

A Laurelton man was charged with assault after police say he injured two officers who were trying to arrest him in Lynbrook Monday morning.

According to police, Nassau officers, with assistance from the Lynbrook Police Department, responded to Starbucks, at 839 Sunrise Highway in Lynbrook, for a man wanted for criminal contempt. When the officers arrived, police say the man, Joshua Mitchell, 23, fled.

The officers gave chase, and police say Mitchell refused the officers' orders and resisted arrest. While he was being placed into custody, police say he injured two officers. One officer suffered an elbow and hand injury, and the other hurt his knee. Both officers were taken to a hospital for treatment.

After his arrest, police say they found that Mitchell was in possession of a forged Connecticut driver's license.

Mitchell is charged with two counts of second-degree assault with intent to cause physical injury to a police officer, second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, third-degree unlawful fleeing of a police officer, second-degree criminal contempt and second-degree aggravated harassment. He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday.
