Sayville Players to Watch Versus Lynbrook

Owls must contain these players to succeed in Long Island title game.

The Sayville Golden Flashes got to the Long Island Class III title game with an explosive offense and a defense that has made big plays at key moments this season. For Lynbrook to be successful this Friday at Hofstra, the Owls need to keep a close eye on Sayville's key players.

They are:

#12 QB Steven Ferreira

Despite Sayville going to more of a ground attack in recent games, junior quarterback Steven Ferreira remains the focal point of Sayville's offense.

Ferreira possesses not only an accurate arm, but also a strong one as well. He has thrown 26 touchdown passes this season, including five over 30 yards in the last four games.

Ferreira's passing numbers are down in the past few games because of Sayville's reliance on running the ball against tough defenses. The All-County quarterback has the special ability to play his best when the game is on the line.

#27 RB John Haggart

Probably Sayville's biggest change from the beginning of the season to now is the emergence of sophomore running back John Haggart. At 6' and 180 lbs, Haggart is now running like a big-time back, using both his speed and power to break tackles and outrun defenders.

He has rushed for over 100 yards in each of the last five games, scoring 11 touchdowns during that span.

#9/51 DL Joe DeLuca

Senior Joe DeLuca has had a solid season on defense for Sayville as the team's co-captain. In recent games, though, he has been inserted in the fullback position, providing blocking for the rushing attack, and at tight end, where he's used to catch passes.

#3 WR/DB James Rupp

At the wide receiver position, Rupp is an extremely valuable receiver for the Golden Flashes since he possesses excellent hands. In the Suffolk County championship game against Islip, he caught a 49-yard touchdown pass from Ferreira and also intercepted a pass in the end-zone during overtime.

#10 WR/DB Thomas Hannan

An extremely versatile player for Sayville, Hannan has the ability to make big catches. Also plays defensive back and returns kicks.

#23 Rich Millwater WR/DB

Millwater is one of the leaders of the team and has made some big plays, including two touchdown catches against Amityville in the Suffolk County quarterfinals.

#52 Justin Fronckwicz DE

Fronckwicz is usually among Sayville's leaders in tackles. He has played extremely well in the playoffs.
