Shots Fired Into Nassau House While Family was Home

No one was injured, but a bullet hit the house and traveled through two rooms before stopping.

Gunshots were fired into a house in Elmont on Sunday night while a family, including an 11-year-old boy, was inside, police said.

According to detectives, while inside their Renfrew Avenue home, the family -- a 51-year-old woman, a 52-year-old man and an 11-year-old boy -- heard what sounded like gunshots outside the front of their house at 8:20 p.m. Upon further investigation, a bullet hole was found in a bedroom window. The bullet went through the bedroom wall and into an adjacent closet, where it stopped. None of the occupants of the house were injured.

An investigation by detectives and interviews conducted at neighboring homes are leading detectives to believe that a dark or black colored SUV, possibly a Jeep Cherokee, was involved as it was seen fleeing the area immediately following the gunshots. At this time, detectives believe that this was a random act and the occupants of the home were not targeted.
