“The '60s were an amazing time in music,” Markus said. “It was a time of social upheaval – civil rights, women's rights, and the Vietnam war, and these issues of concern to so many people showed up in the enduring songs of the era – not just in Dylan's 'Blowing in the Wind,' but also in songs like 'Somebody to Love' by Jefferson Airplane or 'Mercedes Benz' by Janis Joplin.”

The Long Island-based trio, made up of Markus, Glen Roethel and Hillary Foxsong, is frequently compared in sound to the folk legends of the early 1960s, such as Peter, Paul & Mary and Crosby, Stills & Nash. They are currently touring in the northeast and frequently perform tribute shows to the iconic bands of the folk-rock era, in addition to concerts of their original music.

On Friday, May 4 at 7:15 p.m. at Temple Am Echad’s weekly , the group, along with Cantor Jerry Korobow, a well-known figure in folk music circles, will lead a “Peter, Paul & Mary” folk service, interspersing socially conscious songs by the iconic trio at appropriate places among the prayers. The Shabbat service is open to the public of all faiths, at no charge.

On Sunday morning, the trio will lead an assembly for the temple's Sunday school featuring songs of conscience, which will be discussed by from a Jewish perspective by the school's top educators.
