VIDEO: Families Enjoy Good Ole' Fashioned Fun at Crossroads Farm
Nassau-County-owned farm in Malverne holds fall festival featuring sheep shearing, hay rides and more.
There were bushels of ole' fashioned fun to be had at Crossroads Farm at Grossmann's in Malverne Sunday.
The second annual fall festival gave families a chance to experience a slice of rural life in suburbia at one of the few surviving farms in the area. They learned about early farming equipment, planted garlic and played with pigs, llamas and sheep, some of which were sheared during a special demonstration.
It was a beautiful way for kids and adults to enjoy the outdoors, play games, pick pumpkins, listen to live music and see how much the newly restored farm has grown since it sowed its first crops last fall after lying dormant for years. (Nassau County purchased the farm in 2009 from the Grossmann family, who had operated it from 1895 to 2007, and tapped the non-profit Nassau Land Trust to run it in late 2010.)
In addition to a successful first growing season, Farmer Bill Walsh had something else to celebrate this weekend. Click on the video above to find out what that was and to see highlights from this year's fall farm festival.
