VIDEO: Historic Malverne Farm Opens for Business
Four years after closing, Grossmann's Farm in Malverne open agains for business under its new owners - Nassau County.
"Come on down," says Andrea Panaritis, of the newly re-opened farm in Malverne.
Four years after the Grossmann family decided to close down their historic farm, locals flocked to the land Saturday to celebrate its new beginning and stock up on seasonal plants.
The farm, now owned by Nassau County and managed by the Nassau Land Trust, is selling flowers, plants and produce purchased from nearby growers as its farmer Bill Walsh toils on the land. While he plans on selling some vegetables harvested from the farm starting in June, he said it's hard to predict what the land will yield in its first growing season.

For this reason, the Nassau Land Trust is offering a "lite" version of its community supported agriculture, or CSA, program. Locals can purchase coupon books this season that will entitle them to a 10 percent discount at the farm stand. The goal is to eventually have a more traditional CSA program in place as the farm becomes more fruitful, which would allow members to buy "shares" to consistently receive fresh produce grown here at a big discount.
Check out the video report and photos from opening day at the farm.
