In anticipation of the run, certain roads will be closed to the public on the day of the event.

“The Tyree Curry 5K Memorial Run/Walk and Health Fair is one of the most important events of the year,” said Mayor Wayne J. The Tyree Curry 5K Memorial Run/Walk and Health Fair is a great way for the community to come together and accept the challenge of leading a healthy lifestyle.”

The race will start at 9:00 a.m. in Kennedy Park and circle through local streets before heading back to the park. Roads affected by the Tyree Curry 5K route include Greenwich Street, Henry Street, Jerusalem Avenue, Martin Avenue, Harold Avenue, Milburn Avenue, Weir Street, Baldwin Road and Oak Avenue. The registration fee is $30 for adults and $15 for children ages 8-18. All Hempstead residents are encouraged to attend. The health fair and yard sale in Kennedy Park will be open during and after the race.

“The Village of Hempstead is pleased to support the mission of NephCure Kidney International,” added Mayor Hall. “There is so little money allocated to kidney disease research, even though it is the 9th leading cause of death in the US. That’s why we need organizations like NephCure who lead the way to accelerate research for kidney disease. We need better treatments now for patients who are suffering every day.”
