West Hempstead School Budget Vote, Trustee Election Tuesday

Here's what you need to know before heading to the polls.

West Hempstead residents will head to the polls on Tuesday to cast their ballots for a proposed school budget and to elect school board trustees.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at West Hempstead Middle School.

The West Hempstead Board of Education is proposing a budget of $59,140,824 for 2016-17. That represents a 0.59 percent spending decrease over the current year and it comes with a 1.96 percent hike in the school tax levy.

Voters will also elect school board trustees on Tuesday.

Incumbent Patricia Greaves is being challenged by Steven Feldman while incumbents Karen Brohm and Rudolf Schindler are running unopposed for the three open seats. The terms all are for three years.
