West Hempstead's McDermott Triumphs in Turkey Trot

Ryan McDermott beat thousands of runners to win the Garden City Turkey Trot race this Thanksgiving.

West Hempstead's own, Ryan McDermott, won the the 33rd annual Garden City Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving. Dermott, 21, cross the finished line first with a with a time of 25:15, beating out the 3,168 runners who competed in the five-mile race.

The Thanksgiving morning race benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the Muscular Dystrophy Association Helping Jerry's Kids.
