14 Massapequa Students Named Finalists in Youth Summit

Fourteen students from Massapequa High School Main Campus and Ames Campus were selected as finalists to attend the 6th Annual Long Island Youth Summit at Dowling College last month.

They completed research on a variety of topics including the toxic waste and renewable energy, but most popular were the socio-medical topics of bullying, social networking, mental health and well-being.

Two students, Joseph Prusan and Ryan Gray, under the direction of teacher and mentor August Eberling, were even awarded with top honors for their efforts in finding alternative energy sources.

The Youth Summit provided students an opportunity to discuss their finding in small breakout sessions, before reconvening for the awards presentation.

The students also had the unique opportunity to hear from top experts in their respective fields. Students who were selected as top category winners were offered opportunities to apply for a paid internship with the North-Shore LIJ Health System and with other Summit sponsor organizations.
