4 Tried To Steal Headphones From Teens At Knifepoint: Police

Police say the four accosted two teens who were in the mall, but fled when mall security was alerted.

Nassau County Police arrested four people they say tried to steal a teen's headphones at knifepoint at the Sunrise Mall Monday nigiht.

According to police, two 15-year-old boys were in the Sunrise Mall in Massapequa at 7 p.m. Monday when they were approached by one adult and three other teens, who demanded the earphones that one of the teens had. The teen refused and tried to walk away, and police say that one of the others pulled out a knife and threatened them with it.

The teens were able to alert mall security, and police say the would-be robbers fled on foot. They were located a short time later on Carmans Road by police.

The adult arrested was Tavares Redd, 18, of Great Neck Road, Amityville. Redd, and the three juveniles with him, were all charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree attempted robbery and fourth-degree attempted grand larceny.

Redd and two of the juveniles were arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday. The other juvenile was arraigned in Family Court.
