Abstinence, Malaise

And Weariness

Is it a malaise or am I just weary?

I had relinquished chronic TV watching after Covid, retreating instead into my overcrowded Kindle library.

After the event on July 13, I tentatively returned to the world of TV commentators, pundits and so called wise men and women.

One and all speak with authority with equal rapid precision and often quite shrill voices.

They recall the words I often used on my three little boys, “Slow down, Slow down,”

On this lovely Sunday morning, reinforced with a toasted mini bagel (yes with a “schmear”) and obligatory strong cup of very dark coffee, I tried again to listen with courtesy to one and all prime news channels.

Obviously, since I am writing this, I failed.

In recent weeks, I watched and listened to both lengthy three day political conventions.

Each obviously, endorsed distinctly different candidates with equal enthusiasm.

And then I made a reluctant decision, I will read the news, try to thoroughly digest the information, sift the opinions and if God allows the time, cast a vote.

I am weary of the frenzied flash bulletins, shrill voices and lectures that emanate from my Direct TV as well as unwelcome sermons from media celebrities on both sides of the political aisle.

I am returning to abstinence from CNN, FOX, NBC and last but not least ABC.

And I doubt very much they will notice or care, but continue speaking without pause.

However, once again I will enjoy my morning coffee, and yes, the mini bagel with a “schmear.”

And also, offer a prayer that I am here to cast a vote, because I believe that is what matters.
