Ashes Of Past…
Ashes and dust are used interchangeably as each is an essential component of the Earth.
God used pre-existing material to create Adam, and then slipped in an eternal fragment of Himself to animate the inert mass. Genesis 2:7 cites, “Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living person.”

We were both created and formed by The Holy One. Molded in dust and ashes synthesized from age-old millennia, encrusted in the bedrock foundation that supports our steps and bestows endless provisions to nourish that which houses the sacred Soul. We are indeed special - Souls wrapped in living flesh designed to live on a dense, mechanical plane.
Being of the planet’s elements combined with a Higher Source, situates us as conduits between Heaven and Earth. What an awesome honor and responsibility that the Lord has granted us. We truly have the power to bring Heaven to Earth, as above, so below.

Genesis 3:19 proclaims,” …for you are dust and to dust you shall return.” Not the most appealing or hopeful picture, but like everything spiritual, it dives to deeper depths. The physical body will pass; however, the Soul is everlasting. Ash Wednesday links us to the past and the future as burned ash is placed on our foreheads visibly showing sorrow for our sins, and our intentions to turn to the Gospel and do better. From the ash, grows all life.
