The Old Testament has many stories; a few of which I have never been able to forget. Delilah and Sampson, of course, top the list, but barely below is the fabled Tower of Babel.
Genesis reads, “Therefore its name is called Babel because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth.”
Today I felt I was square in the middle of the fabled Tower.

It all began yesterday with a message appearing suddenly on the face of my IPhone. It instructed me to immediately synch my IPhone to my computer lest something dire would happen to my ICloud.

As it progressed, my IPhone was flooded with hysterical messages, 8 in all, telling me my Data allowance had been exceeded, and additional Data (aka money due) was being added to my monthly bill. Within minutes of the update to the IPhone and computer I dialed my phone carrier and requested information on the additional billing.
Perhaps I am remiss in my knowledge of the verbiage currently used for the newer technology, but I was flabbergasted to learn that the synch procedure I had been instructed to do was the culprit in the Data overages.
“Nobody told me” is an outdated and unrealistic excuse. I accept the blame and the financial consequences. Still in this instance I felt I was speaking an alien language. The words I am accustomed to hearing and using are being recreated in another vocabulary that I have yet to learn.
Later that afternoon as I watched the early news on TV the new deal with Iran was announced. Once again, the language paints a picture you wish to see. If you are negative about the new agreement (apparently, the word treaty is no longer appropriate), then not only the country but the world is in peril. If you agree with the current administration, it is a significant moment in history postponing nuclear war for possibly 8 years.
Both sides are positive in their position; both sides are using vocabulary to present the prognosis of the agreement in the most agreeable light. Yet they cannot both be right.
When I was oh, so young, I desperately wanted to at least visit the Land of Oz. Sadly, now I feel I reside there.
