Ah, yes, I am a woman of routine.
Excessive routine to be quite honest.
It was a quality that endured throughout most of my adolescence and ended abruptly with the arrival of my beloved.

Routine never reappeared throughout the 57 years of marriage we shared
Some years had challenging moments, others less so, but always embraced with love.

And love overpowers routine, always!
However, for the past 14 years routine has slowly but ever so surely reentered my small world.
I arise, give thanks and before my essential cup of coffee, weigh myself.
That was my first jolt this a.m.
My faithful scale alerted me I had gained 500 lbs overnight.
While being only somewhat alert, I still realized I hadn’t ingested that many calories at dinner, and there obviously was a problem with the scale,
Yet it was a bit unnerving.
So I did the sensible thing.
Opening my Ipad, I added “New Scale” in bold letters on the top of my Amazon list and poured the now delayed cup of coffee.
While slowly sipping the soothing dark caffeine, I turned on my Smart TV (chapter 2 of my routine).
Before retiring the previous evening (also being Smart or so I foolishly believed), I updated the system.
When the picture appeared, it was accompanied by a voice. However, it was distinctly different than the one I heard before my system update.
The new voice spoke in an unknown language, not French, Italian, German or even Latin.
And definitely not English.
Instantly I realized I was not as proficient at System updates as I once believed.
I also realized I would need a second cup of coffee, as I recalled the words in my morning meditation (Chapter one of my daily routine.)
Challenges help us grow in Strength, Endurance and Patience.
And I understood the futility of routine when life is a roller coast of ups, downs and adventures.
We only need to embrace the journey.
