Cooling Centers Open As Temperatures Soar Through Midweek

The Town of Oyster Bay has air-conditioned facilities available from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

OYSTER BAY, NY — The first heat wave of the summer could hit Long Island this week. With temperatures forecast to stay hot through mid-week, the Town of Oyster Bay is opening a pair of cooling centers.

The Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center on Stewart Avenue in Bethpage and the Athletic Center on South Broadway in Hicksville will provide residents with extended air conditioning.

They will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

When the temperatures rise, Supervisor Joseph Saladino gave, some tips to remember:

  • Stay hydrated.
  • Wear a hat and light, loose-fitting clothing.
  • Eat light, but nutritious food.
  • Check on relatives and friends, especially the elderly.
