And Indeed that is all that matters.

The 5lb bag of King Arthur’s flour stands stark and unopened as coffee drips slowly from my dependable Keurig perched nearby.

The bag is accompanied by two boxes of brown sugar, one light, the other dark. Both also unopened.

The box of Christmas cards from The Metropolitan Museum Store remains sealed and

The book of Christmas stamps is intact.

Yet they do not induce a sensation of guilt or despair at the difference in Christmas 2024 as compared to so many others.

Instead they are a reminder of my blessings.

An end to the battle waged with Covid and the toll it took emotionally as well as physically.

The ability and blessings I share tonight with a community of pilgrims as we celebrate the birth of Our Lord.

Life in my conflicted world where there is peace tonight and it is tightly wrapped with a quilt of blessings.

Some I had not recognized until my fierce battle with Covid allowed me to emerge wounded but intact.

Others that awaken a sense of awe as I await the miracle of Christmas 2024.

And I give thanks for all I have been given including those I have loved and those who once loved me

And so, as Tiny Tim said, "A Merry Christmas to us all; God bless us, every one!"
