Dozens Of LI Students Named Coca Cola Scholar Semifinalists

Dozens of students from Long Island, and more than 100 across the state, have been named semifinalists in the annual Coca Cola Scholar competition. They are in the running to receive a $20,000 scholarship to help pay for their college education.

The students are among 1,896 students nationwide that were selected as semifinalists from a pool of more than 95,000 applicants. Those applicants will be whittled down to just 150 winners who will eventually receive the scholarship.

Coca Cola created the scholarship in 1986 to celebrate the company's 100th anniversary. According to the scholarship's website, the goal is to "provide scholarship programs and lifelong enrichment opportunities in support of exceptional peoples’ thirst for knowledge and their desire to make a difference in the world."
