Drunk Man Drove 80 MPH on Southern State in N. Massapequa, Fled Into Woods: Police
A K-9 unit helped track down the 23-year-old after a traffic stop Wednesday night, police say.

NORTH MASSAPEQUA, NY- A 23-year-old man faces several charges after police say he was driving drunk at 80 mph on the Southern State Parkway and then fled into the woods during a traffic stop Wednesday night.
According to State Police, a trooper stopped a gray Nissan for speeding on the eastbound side of the parkway near Exit 31–Bethpage State Parkway–in North Massapequa at about 11:40 p.m.
While interviewing the driver, Tyree Nixon, of Central Islip, the trooper detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage, police said.

Nixon failed sobriety tests and was about to be taken into custody when he resisted arrest and fled into the woods off the south shoulder, police said.
Nixon was located shortly after by a State Police K-9 unit near Route 110 and the Southern State Parkway, where he was taken into custody, police said.

Nixon had a blood-alcohol content of .13 percent at the time of arrest, well over the state’s legal limit of .08, police said.
Nixon was is charged with felony DWI (a felony because he has at least one other DWI conviction in the past 10 years), felony unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and using a vehicle without an interlock device.
Nixon was held for arraignment in Nassau County First District Court on Friday.
