Duo Arrested After Leading Cops On Chase In Stolen Car: Police

Police say one officer was injured during the chase, which stretched more than two miles.

Two people were arrested Wednesday evening after police say they led officers on a chase in Massapequa in a stolen car.

According to police, officers were investigating the parking lot of the Sunrise Mall at 6 p.m. after receiving a LOJAC signal indicating a stolen car was nearby. While conducting the search, police say Naquan Reid, 27, of Steele Place, Amityville, and Sophia Kwintner, 21, of Chelsea Place, Deer Park, were seen getting into a gray Chevrolet Impala, which matched the description of the LOJAC alarm.

Police say the officer saw the car commit multiple vehicle and traffic law violations. The officer tried to pull over the car, but Reid, who was driving, refused to stop, police say, and drove north on Carmans Road, committing more traffic violations. Police say he intentionally struck a police car, causing an officer an injury to their hand.

The car finally stopped when it hit a parked car on Great Neck Road in Amityville, police say, about two miles away from the mall. Both Reid and Kwintner got out of the car, police say, and fled on foot. Reid was found in the back yard of a home on Somerset Road North in Amityville. He resisted arrest, police say, but was placed into custody at 6:30 p.m. A K-9 unit found Kwintner in the back yard of a Somerset Road North home, and she was arrested at 6:36 p.m.

Reid is charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of stolen property, five counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle, assault and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations. Kwintner is charged with five counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon.
