East Lake Elementary Schoolers Celebrate Mother’s Day With Tea

In what's becoming an annual tradition, East Lake elementary schoolers were joined by their moms for afternoon tea Tuesday.

MASSAPEQUA, NY — East Lake Elementary School was the site of an early celebration Tuesday as kindergarten students were joined by their moms for Mother’s Day tea.

The students packed into the cafeteria Tuesday as their moms and grandmothers all joined them for an hour-long celebration that featured a group song, the recitation of a poem, and a little snack and refreshment after.

As students and their moms sat down to have some cinnamon buns, cookies and iced tea, district officials said the students had prepared a surprise for their parents: handmade placemats, tissue paper corsages, hand-drawn portraits and booklets titled, “All About My Mom.” To complete the decoration, district officials said the walls of the cafeteria were decorated with paper flowers, on which each student had written words that best described their moms.
