Geoffrey Roan, a school bus driver with Educational Bus Transportation, recently took top honors at the 47th Annual New York State School Bus Safety Competition held in Rockland County, New York. Of the more than 100 registrants for the competition, Roan won first place in the small bus/van category, making him eligible to compete in the National School Transportation Association (NSTA) International School Bus Safety Competition in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 21 and 22. This was the second time Roan came in first place in his category, having also won in the 2016 New York State School Bus Safety Competition.

“Our drivers and bus attendants are among the best in the industry and we encourage them whenever possible to participate in regional safety competitions, such as the recent statewide competition,” explained Educational Bus Transportation President Sean Corr. “We are committed to the highest possible safety standards and you can see that in Geoffrey’s performance. Everyone at Educational Bus Transportation is very proud of Geoffrey and wishes him continued success at this summer’s international safety competition.”

According to Bree Allen, president of the New York School Bus Contractors Association, which sponsored the safety competition, the day began with a comprehensive written exam on school bus safety followed by a driver’s test that gauged skills with a variety of hands-on activities, including vehicle inspections, loading and unloading students, operating a school bus through various driving courses, and managing railroad crossings.
