Farmingdale Man Sold Heroin to Undercover Detectives: Police

Two men were arrested Thursday following a 5-month undercover operation that was initiated in Massapequa, police say.

A Farmingdale man and a Shirley man were arrested Thursday after they sold heroin to undercover detectives during a narcotics investigation, police said.

According to authorities, Edward Stanchio, 47, of Farmingdale, and Arsen Cankul, 36, of Shirley, possessed and sold a quantity of heroin to the detectives in September while Cankul’s 4-year-old child was present.

From the September to February, Cankul continued to sell heroin, approximately 987 glassine envelopes, to undercover detectives, police said.

Cankul again allegedly sold a large quantity of heroin to undercover detectives on Thursday and was subsequently placed under arrest without further incident. Police said Cankul sold and possessed a total of 1,393 glassine envelopes containing heroin during the ongoing investigation.

Cankul was charged with two counts of second degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, two counts of third degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, two counts of second degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property (warrant) and unlawfully dealing with a child.

Stanchio was also arrested and charged with third degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The undercover operation, initiated in Massapequa, involved the Nassau County Narcotics Vice Bureau, DEA Group D-14 and the Suffolk County Police Department.

Both men will be arraigned Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
