Father and Son Charged With Failing To Feed Dogs: SPCA

The two dogs were found "emaciated" with ribs, spine, and hips showing, the SPCA said.

NORTH MASSAPEQUA, NY - A North Massapequa father and son were charged with not giving their two dogs enough food and water, according to the Nassau County SPCA.

Thomas Skuza and Thomas Skuza Jr. were both found to have deprived their two dogs, Romeo and Damian of necessary sustenance, food and water, the SPCA said.

Both dogs were found at their North Queens Avenue home by Nassau County SPCA Detectives. They were both"emaciated" with ribs, spine, and hips showing, the SPCA said.

They were dehydrated with sunken eyes and poor skin turgor, the SPCA said.

Romeo and Damian were immediately taken to an animal hospital where they were admitted for initial stabilization and supportive care.

The veterinarian's evaluation found both to be underweight with muscle wasting. Romeo had metallic foreign bodies in his stomach, which will likely need to be removed to prevent life threatening complications.

The two men were charged with failure to provide proper sustenance according to the SPCA.

Romeo and Damian are going to need extensive veterinary care including possible surgery, the Nassau County SPCA is asking the public for help. Anyone wishing to help can go to helpstarvingdogs.ncspca.us.
