A Final

I believe a reservation has been made, but I am not aware of the time or place,

This is not unexpected nor a surprise. Rather my whole life has been quite the same.

My beloved and I rarely traveled on a scheduled flight nor was a departure scheduled for his final trip.

I remember him standing tall shortly before our goodbyes and sadly saying he wished I could join him.

While holding back the tears, I nodded affirmatively.

But all our wishes are not meant to be granted and I realize with gratitude that most of ours were.

From the moment our paths collided on a dark subway station, there were few hopes or dreams that were denied.

HIs final trip alone was the exception. Much later when I awoke from the sleep of sorrow I knew there had been a reason.

We are never able to understand what is still needed, or anticipate what will be possible.

However, sometimes we are allowed to eventually understand why we had been spared that knowledge.

That may also be the reason many flights are unscheduled.

For some vague unknown reason I believe mine may fall into that category, or maybe it is a hidden hope.

However, of course, I could be wrong and there may be a delay caused by unpredicted storms.

However, I do believe there is no need to fear.

I have been blessed with many unscheduled flights during my incredible time on earth.

All have had destinations beyond the scope of even an naive young girl’s imagination.

Still I’ll prepare a few things, just in case the flight arrives earlier than I expected.

And pray that I am ready to travel.

And also believe that he will be there waiting.
