Gobbled…
Ahhh… the endless edibles, the harvest aromas, the effervescent beverages, and the memories in-the-making, all are appealing agents for the customary feast that awaits today’s simmering melting pot. As we recall poignant images of Native Americans crowned with colorfully feathered headgear and long shiny braids bench-seated with the fair-skinned Pilgrims in their swash and buckle of black and obscure attire, our collective consciousness is inundated with lingering scenes of times gone by and people who had an entirely different regimen and mindset in tending to their daily activities, protocols, and spirituality. Why did this work then; why is it failing today?
The indigenous inhabitants worshipped and understood the “Great Spirit”, who generated everything, and was the life force behind it. Respecting and honoring every human, animal, and nature is a main edict. If this simple stipulation was adhered to, then peace would reign, and the world would rhythmically pulse as one heartbeat.

The Mayflower crew left England behind to pursue religious freedom. After all, when God shines His Light, and asks for our cooperation, compliance is mandatory. When something doesn’t feel right, or we are castrated by prohibition despite an inner calling that dictates otherwise, we can’t help but wonder if the main establishment yelling in our faces, “Because I said so,” is enough to wash away the intimacy and “knowing” that the Lord has granted each of us to hear His call, and proclaim it. The Soul sings in many ways, yet the lyrics of The Lord with its exquisite imperial frequencies is what we must endeavor to keep our ears plugged into, but many shut down the transmission. Why?
These two diverse groups shared and gave thanks for what they possessed at that moment – prolific food and new found friendship, and looked the other way to what was clearly lacking – secure, warm shelter, year round accessible provisions, and absolute safety in unexplored territory with winter’s frost impregnating icy deposits upon the unyielding landscape. They had tremendous faith and trust in God as embossed offshoots dwelling on a new continent trying to establish roots while navigating and enduring what would have been an impossible thought pattern or reality before they embarked.

More important than the sweet niblets and comradery, was the sacred union. No longer isolated units, they merged as one – one body, one Spirit. Famine and fear of the unknown may have brought them together, but do not believe for a second that The Almighty did not orchestrate this as His Hand can be witnessed in all human activities. We are created as the flesh of the earth and the propagated Soul of God fashioned into one spectacular prototype to ensure Heaven on Earth. He has great faith in us as we walk treacherous terrains, float on tumultuous oceans, and leave our unique indelible footprints as a sincere memento in a land that will someday be foreign to newcomers. Let’s make sure the scenery and signs are welcoming, harmonious, and echo The Lord’s decree.
Roll out the big bird and smoking entrees, serve the glazed fruit pies and assorted desserts, but try not to be gobbled up by the makeshift tangibles of the day. Save room for our Savior in between the countless courses and the rah-rah of the transient festivities. Strive to connect with the very Essence that once guided and symbolized the Oneness of a people who trusted and believed in The Lord and each other. Remember to give thanks to the Holy One, who made you, claims you, and sets you forth on paths you would not have taken up on your own, nor have emerged successfully if left to your own machinations. Each of us is a Disciple, commissioned by Him to do His work. Lead me Grand Conductor… I am courageous in your Presence…
Happy Thanksgiving near and far! May God, our Eternal source of love, peace, and joy, create a gushing cascade of abundance on a day that welcomes the throwbacks of yesteryear as a staunch reminder of what awaits us…
~ “All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God,” 2 Corinthians 4:15. ~
