America

Oh, let’s not pretend.

It is cold and bleak today and it’s not just the weather.

The political arena has lit up again in Iowa and both sides despite the bravado are running scared.

Taking the liberty to quote Maureen Dowd’s always magical words:

“And now I find myself in puffy outerwear, trudging through snow in glacial Iowa.”

Although I cannot pretend I trudge anywhere these days, I, am also cold. Although the heat has been turned up, and the temperature remains static, it is the climate of unease that seems to be falling along with the snowflakes.

I am not in Iowa, nor am I committed to a political agenda, but the pending arena of accusations and promises from all participants is not particularly appealing.

So I leave the frenzied TV reports of continuing blizzard conditions both weather and political.

Instead I open and spritz my treasured Christmas gift of Chanel No. 5 and retreat to the library where there is a roaring fire. I know I will be embraced by the camaraderie of other kindred souls and welcomed with a cup of very dark black coffee and perhaps to some degree deny reality,

Because I do and must believe the blizzards (both climate and political) will end, and the land we love will survive.

God Bless America!
