The Not So Ordinary Pumpkin

They date back to antiquity, approximately seven thousand years with the Native Americans, who handed them to the Pilgrims, and were then carried to modern day mayhem, where they are juxtaposed with horror films, themed parties, and other ghoulish delights. Pumpkins have traveled long and far with many traditions, urban legends, and folklores, like Stingy Jack from Ireland who supposedly still walks the earth with his glowing Jack-O’-Lantern. They serve as food and decorations, are iconic, revered, and are an unmistakable sign of fall with their bright orange hue bursting forth from the verdant landscape. All Hallows’ Eve is the evening before the Holy day, now called All Saints Day, that signaled one to pray for those who have departed, while others worried about warding off possible evil specters since the veil between the spirit world and the physical is thinnest, encouraging spiritual shenanigans. Either way, the focus was and still is, on the Soul – that Eternal Spark from God that animates our bodies, like a luminous internal Light. The Jack-O’- Lantern also has a light within, placed there by human hands to radiate outward, and make clear the path. As Souls of the Divine One, we have that power, to En-Lighten everything around us. Light symbolizes God, love, faith, and holiness. We too are like lanterns, vessels with an Everlasting Flame lovingly placed there by The Only One Who Can. What started out as a pagan ritual still perpetuates the Lord’s decree for Light. Happy Halloween and a Joyful Soul-filled All Hallows’ Eve to all!

~ “And God said, ‘Let there be light, and there was light,’” Genesis 1:3. ~
