Health Officials Issue Advisory Against Swimming At 44 Long Island Beaches

BREAKING: The advisory is due to an excess of bacteria that could result from the heavy rain.

Health officials have issued an advisory against bathing at 44 beaches on Long Island after the heavy rainfall on Monday night. The advisory is due to an excess of bacteria that could result from the heavy rain.

The beaches covered by the advisory are located in areas that are heavily influenced by stormwater runoff.

Residents are advised to avoid bathing in the waters of the affected areas for at least 24 hours.

The advisory will be lifted Wednesday, June 21, at 8:30 a.m., unless water samples indicate that elevated levels of bacteria have persisted beyond the 24-hour period.

In addition, Benjamin Beach in Bay Shore remains closed as recent testing conducted by the health department revealed levels of bacteria in excess of state standards.

  • Theodore Roosevelt Beach – Oyster Bay
  • Sea Cliff Village Beach – Sea Cliff
  • Soundside Beach – Bayville
  • Stehli Beach – Bayville
  • Tappen Beach – Glenwood Landing
  • Biltmore Beach Club – Massapequa
  • Hewlett Point Beach – East Rockaway
