Hobby Lobby Opens Massapequa Park Store

The grand opening was also the site of a protest against the chain's conservative policies.

Hobby Lobby, the chain of craft stores, opened two new locations on Long Island on Monday, including one in Massapequa Park.

In addition to the Massapequa Park store, the chain also opened a location in Bay Shore, making it the third store on Long Island. There had previously been one Hobby Lobby on Long island in Commack.

Ed Spadoni is the store manager of the 40,000 square-foot store, which is located on Sunrise Highway between Block Boulevard and Unqua Road. The building used to be a Sports Authority.

However, the grand opening was not all fanfare. According to Newsday, a group of protesters gathered outside of the Massapequa Park store, saying that the store violated women's rights by not paying for health insurance that covers birth control.

The craft chain is well-known for its owner's conservative point of view. The store in Massapequa Park is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day except Sunday, when all Hobby Lobby stores are closed so employees can worship.
